The Property

Luxury Bed and Breakfast in South Island

Located in historic Nelson, South Island, Sunnybank Homestead offers luxury bed and breakfast accommodation in home beautifully restored to its original Victorian Grandeur.

There are three luxurious suites, two on the first floor both with en suites with antique style fittings, and one on the ground floor with a large private bathroom with clawfoot bath and shower. All are richly decorated and furnished. Also upstairs is a guests lounge, once the Gentleman’s’ smoking room, with a loftly cathedral ceiling.

Relax in the drawing room, on the verandas or decks, and enjoy a stroll through the beautiful gardens, which display several of Margaret’s Oamaru Stone Sculptures.

About Your Hosts

Margaret is a working artist and designer, painting and sculpting have become a major part of her life. Guests have the benefit of taking in her artwork throughout the Homestead and gardens, it is very likely Margaret will have ‘Work in progress’ during your stay.

Out and About

Sunnybank is just a 10 minutes walk into the Centre of Nelson. Many artists and craftspeople draw inspiration from the landscape that extends from Nelson to Golden Bay. The Nelson School of Music hosts a busy calendar of events, as does the old Theatre Royal.
The Botanics Park is just around the corner from Sunnybank, here the 1st ever game of rugby was played in NZ (1870).
Walk beside the Matai River from the bottom of the driveway, climb the Botanical Hill and enjoy the panoramic views of Nelson and Tasman Bay. The more athletic can enjoy walking, running and mountain biking, golf and fly fishing, while those more inclined to a quieter holiday can relax on the spectacular beaches.
